Hey Audrey,

Thanks for the feedback. I appreciate your honesty. I am very sorry for how you’ve been treated by guys.

I also wish I had chosen a different metaphor. Of course, I am not asking girls to eat instead of be mistreated by guys. I would much prefer finding a guy who is worth your time and finding healthy outlets for hurt and stress.

The answer is neither ice cream or boys but rather Jesus.

As a single young women I too tend to go to food as a way to satisfy my emotions too, HOWEVER, I do appreciate the ice cream comment! After, what seems like, an eternity of broken hearts and “one night stands” or dates and no phone calls back or after 3 years of being on the back burner I wish someone would have had the nerve to tell me this! I would much rather eat 10 gallons of ice cream than call the guy that uses me every time I call him or has no intentions of being a potential husband. I would rather gain a pound or 5 if it ment I wouldnt be emotionally abused by a guy whos only intentions are to “see where things go.” A guy with no intentions of dating/ marrying me is more emotionally abusive than eating a tub of ice cream!

Christina, I did not lose the concept of the post. This is a very important subject…one that I take to heart because I have a ten year old daughter and alot of young (teenage) women in my life. And I do not look to be offended. It’s amazing to me that someone would even think that. My concern, joke or not, is the young woman that reads this and takes what he said to heart. My daughter, who is healthy, frequently talks about her body and that she is fat. So yes, that ‘advice’ did jump out at me…looking for it or not.

I’m sorry for your struggles Deb- but I think it’s obvious that Aaron was using humor to point out that if you’re thinking about making an unwise decision, you should find something else to do. You choose to focus in on that one statement and missed the concept of the post- and that’s unfortunate. It’s really easy to be offended if you’re looking for it.

Hey Deb,

Thanks for sharing your opinion. First, I am sorry for offending you. It is not my intention to offend anyone.

This blog post originally comes from a face to face conversation I had with female students and volunteers in our ministry. I use a lot of comedy and hyperbole in my verbal communication style. I am learning that this does not necessarily translate to written communication.

To my students it was obvious that eating ice cream was not advice. It was a joke. I believe that we ought to take all of our burdens to Jesus and not to eating, working out, our jobs or even our families.

Again, my apologies for offending you.

Are you kidding me?? I am a food addict and it is a struggle daily to not stuff my emotions down my throat! I was ready to share your article…have a lot of young women friends…until I read that. No woman/girl, young or old, should be given that as advice…

You’re welcome. Based on the reader response I plan to add a 4th post on Friday dealing with the traps that can knock girls off their desired path. It was part of the original talk I gave but I cut it for space.
