I agree with your point. I think that you’re right. The excess freedom can be difficult to manage. Also, people on the outside often wonder what the heck we are doing. There is often a perception of laziness even if we aren’t. That can be frustrating too.

While I never had a cool job like working on oil wells, my early job as a pizza delivery boy taught me a few lessons, too….mostly about the importance of getting it delivered in 30 minutes or less!

The whole work ethic and youth ministry discussion is touchy because deep down I know we aren’t lazy…but I think we (as a collective whole) struggle with the amount of freedom most of us who are in full time youth ministry are allowed. But I also believe it may be one of the most vital conversations we can have, even though it isn’t nearly as sexy as faith-abandonment, the future of YM, etc.
