Curious if you have found any other books you’d recommend? We have 5 kiddos ranging in ages 8 months – almost 12. We have allowed the sucky devotions frustration be our excuse just over a year now for not making devotions happen. I will be getting the second book you recommended for sure (we have the 1st). But with your youth leadership perspective and the ever evolving world of devotions I thought you may have another suggestion. Thank you

Comment on 3 Things Girls Must Know About Sexuality by Maria Westfall http://www.aaronbuer.com/3-things-girls-must-know-about-sexuality/#comment-2385 Fri, 12 Dec 2014 00:57:45 +0000 http://www.aaronbuer.com/?p=219#comment-2385 You say: “If you want to see your dreams come true—in terms of relationships and marriage, and I know all of you have an image in your mind of what your wedding will be like, down to the dress and the colors”, but my dreams don’t include marriage or weddings. I dream of making the world a better place; I dream of my career, I dream of living a life of purpose. My value is not determined by a man–or my relationship with a man. To say that I dream of weddings reduces me to a silly stereotype. When you speak to boys, do you say the same thing to them–about their dreams of what their going to wear on their wedding day?

With the best intentions, I ordered it right away, but completely forgot about it! Guess what I’m doing this weekend.

In the church I currently serve this season is definitely one of exhaustion. Whether that is dealing with leadership issues, pressure to increase numbers, or apathy all around; this cycle of ministry is draining.

What I have found most helpful, as you wrote above, is finding real friendships. These friendships combine the other two elements (sabbath and relationships with God) in that the time spent with them is rest and a time to share your relationship with God without worrying about doctrine or correct speech. I once had a friend tell me prior to entering my first ministry, “Find a best friend and spend as much time as you can with that person–it’s what will get you through.” Finding that best friend is still difficult, though I have made many close friends, but as you wrote, some still feel like acquaintances.

Thanks for these words.

Man. Really great post! I can really relate. We have two children now and leading them to know Jesus is constantly on our brains and heart. We really like the Story book bible. Such a great resource! I haven’t seen that devotional book but definitely going to check it out now. Thanks Aaron.
