On the second point. I do agree with you about the value of men and yes it bothers me how men are portrayed in sitcoms. In speaking to the girls of our student ministry, my point was this: most of the guys out there aren’t worth your time. No because they are guys but because they have chosen to live their lives outside of God’s design. Honestly, if 50% of men are addicted to pornography our girls need to be warned that many guys who even appear to be solid guys are hiding a dangerous sin that could ruin your marriage.

My second caution is to remember that you can build up your daughters without diminishing the incredible importance of men. Women are not the pinnacle of creation. Humanity is the pinnacle of creation. You are a blessing to your daughters and other women as you write this series where you build us up and call us higher. But don’t bow to society’s pressure to vituperate men. It’s okay to build men up, too, because you also are dearly loved, treasured, and full of purpose. Sitcoms give us a rather unflattering picture of men, and there is a lot of pressure on you to lower yourselves to make up for a history of real and perceived male abuses. Let’s refuse to reinforce society’s view (a bunch of fat, gross rich guys who’ve been divorced 15 times, sitting in a gaudy office making a crap-ton of money from exploiting women) and build our sons up as strong, faithful, loving, sheltering, wise, warriors of the Lord.
